Miles is in the graduating Class of 2020 of May River High School, Bluffton, and his future plans are to enlist in the U.S. Coast Guard.
What inspired you to choose this path?
I’ve always wanted to do something to help people and I love being on the water. I’d like to do Search and Rescue with the Coast Guard.
What do you enjoy most about living here?
I’m originally from a small town in the New Jersey mountains called Belvidere, and my family relocated to Hampton Lake 4 years ago. The thing I like most about it down here is that there is no snow and I love the warmer weather. I enjoy spending time with my mom and dad doing things like kayaking and hiking.
What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Wild Wings Café and Cheap Seats
If you could safely travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I would like to travel to Ireland because I would like to learn more about my family’s history.
What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
The Last Samurai starring Tom Cruise
What’s the best advice you ever received from a teacher? Who was the teacher?
My football coach/teacher Coach Bonneville taught me to persevere and keep pushing myself even when it got tough because you can accomplish great things.
What is your go-to band/artist when you can’t decide what to listen to?
Johnny Cash or Bob Dylan
What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
There are lots of activities to keep busy and the people of the community are very hospitable and friendly
Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I want to make a career out of the Coast Guard. I want to travel and experience different parts of the world while also being given a chance to make a difference.
Favorite month? holiday? and the best single day on the calendar?
The month of May, it’s not too hot but warm enough to go swimming.
Who or what inspires you to be better?
My desire to make my family proud.
If you could go back over your entire school career what is one thing you would do differently?
Take advantage of the time I had to make more memories with more people.
Who or what do you miss the most right now?
I miss a lot of friends from school that I didn’t get to say goodbye to. I even miss my teachers who I’ve wanted to thank for all the work they put in because they care about the students.
What’s the first thing you want to do when this quarantine is over?
Celebrate graduating High School with the rest of the Senior Class.
