Kieron O’Grady

Please tell us about you and your family.

My wonderful wife Annabelle, my 17 year old stepson Noah, six month old baby girl “”Charlie””, 2 cats – Sasha & Simon & 1 dog – Molly!

Please tell us about your current career (or former ) Thing you love most about what you do.
I have been a loan officer on Hilton Head for 10 years and work for Movement Mortgage. As a loan officer, I love providing clients with the best advice when obtaining a mortgage. Helping people buy their first home or fulfill a long held dream to move here is particularly rewarding. For most people, their mortgage is their biggest financial undertaking. Putting them in the best possible position financially in this regard is a privilege and what drives me every day.

What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Obviously the Big Bamboo Cafe in Coligny Plaza. My brother and I bought it in 2000 and have run it (with the help of our awesome managers) ever since. It’s a very relaxing place for great food, top notch drinks and live music…and wonderful to catch up with all our friends and regulars. Outside of the Bamboo there are literally hundreds of fantastic restaurants to try in Hilton Head and Bluffton. I guess a glass of wine at the bar of The Pearl in Old Town Bluffton is a great way to unwind at the end of the week!

How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I first visited Hilton Head in 1989 and moved here in 2000

If you could travel anywhere in the world (safely) right now, where would it be and why?
Returning to England to introduce our family and friends to baby Charlie is a must!!

What is your go-to band/music genre when you can’t decide what to listen to?
Well, I play bass is a Rolling Stones cover band, so the Stones are a good start. Otherwise I love listening to original music that our local musicians have written, such as Martin Lesch and the Low Country Boil bluegrass band.

If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
I’d have to bring Keith Richards to the Bamboo!! I understand he has some good stories….

What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I love the sense of community here….and my favorite pastime is to boat on the Intracoastal waterway. I’ve made it up to Charleston and down to St Simon’s Island. The environment is stunning.

What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
In my former life (the 90’s!), I was a maritime attorney in London

What is the most beautiful place you have ever been to?
The area around Capetown in South Africa is phenomenal, but nothing beats the South Carolina Low Country at sunset.

If you were cast in a movie and could choose your costar, who would it be?
Jackie Chan – he’s funny, well mannered, up for anything, and can take care business when things get out of hand!

Favorite month? holiday? and the best single day on the calendar?
Best day – February 11th – my wedding anniversary!! Favorite holiday – I love Thanksgiving…..beautiful time of year.

Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Family, hospitality and rest (well relaxing in the garden….!!)”
