Diane Barber

Meet Diane!  I was born & raised in Jersey City NJ attended a private girl’s catholic academy then on to college where a received a degree in accounting. I met George, the love of my life at my sweet 16 party & we married in 1981 and in 1989 we had our beautiful daughter, Kristen, and shortly thereafter moved to a very rural part of NJ until 2016 when we started the process of building our dream home in Hampton Lake in Bluffton. I have been in the medical field, had my own catering business then over 20 years ago found my true love career being a Realtor. I have held my professional EMT certification since 1993 and spent 25/years as a volunteer in my NJ community, since moving to Bluffton I have continued to volunteer as a Disaster Assistance Team member for the American Red Cross.

Please tell us about your current career (or former ) Thing you love most about what you do.
I have been a professional Realtor for over a third of my life & absolutely love what I do. Being a part of one of the American dreams is one of the most rewarding feelings you’ll ever have. Most of my clients have become like family & this thrills me more than I can express in words.

What inspired you or led you to your career?
I was inspired by a friend to try my hand at real estate over two decades ago, she was our town mayor & a broker manager of a local real estate office. She was like you have such a great personality and you are so detailed how would you like to be a realtor? Well, I said yes & just like being married, it’s been happily ever after!

What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
We have been enjoying all the amazingly fresh seafood that can be had in so many great restaurants including some of our favs like Hudson’s, Skull Creek Boathouse & our on-property restaurant Backwater Bill’s Grill which is awesome.

How long have you lived or worked in our community?
My family and I have been spending time in the Hilton Head Island area for over 12 years, my husband retired in 2015 & in 2016 we started the process of making South Carolina our next chapter. We settled in Bluffton at Hampton Lake in September of 2017 & we love it!

Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Truly the most interesting person I have met since coming to the area & who inspired me to continue my real estate career here has to be Julie Timms. She has an unbelievable knowledge of everything thing Hilton Head & shares that wealth of knowledge with anyone who asks. Her husband Bernie & she have become like family to me for which I feel blessed.

If you could travel anywhere in the world (safely) right now, where would it be and why?
We love to travel & when we can again get out and go it would be really awesome to crisscross our beautiful country on an extended road trip. The beauty of the United States is unparalleled & we would love to see it all.

What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
The James Bond series of movies are by far my favorites, and most of the leading men make watching them a lot of fun! As far as TV I’m a cop show junkie.

What advice would you give to people?
My advice for people would be to be your best, love until it hurts, and be real.

What is something on your bucket list?
The biggest thing on my bucket list would be to live long enough to see my daughter live “the happily ever” after we have lived. Besides that, I would hope we would get to take that cross country expedition.

What is your go-to band/music genre when you can’t decide what to listen to?
Growing up in a musical family I do enjoy big band music, jazz & classical music.

What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
I love seeing a long time family business like the Bluffton Oyster Factory with all the amazing history behind it.

If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
My best date for lunch would be my lifelong best friend Donna and we would just hang out wherever and laugh and talk like we always do but in person.

What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
My favorite thing about the Lowcountry is the beautiful scenery, friendly people, and the rich history that surrounds us.

Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, I’m hoping to go out at the top of my game in the real estate business and enjoy all this amazing area has to offer in my golden years.

(Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
Most people don’t know that I would have really liked to have been in the Navy.

What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
The most beautiful place and an all-time favorite is Bermuda.

If you were cast in a movie and could choose your costar, who would it be?
My favorite leading man. Pierce Brosnan
